Bread, Coffee, and Cake
an Artisan Bakery since 2006

Reopening in 2012
BC2’s Story

Bread, Coffee and Cake (BC2), an artisan bakery, has been closed since April 8, 2011, when a huge boulder rolled down the Wabasha bluffs. The boulder crashed through the back side of BC2’s building in the middle of the night when no one was around.

That was last year, and now in 2012, we expect the bakery to reopen this spring in a new location. Robert, the owner, is working with others to get the paperwork prepared, reviewed, and signed, and he is handling the other myriad details of opening a business. As soon as BC2 has the location—all papers are signed—we will post it on this Web site. Please wish Robert luck and keep him in your thoughts! Robert and Rita are very grateful for the support and kindness so many showed last year and appreciate your messages in our guestbook.

When the bakery reopens, our products will be, as always, made from scratch and sourced locally as much as possible. BC2 offers breakfast wraps and platters; sandwiches, soups, and salads for lunch; and cakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, muffins, and pies. Any of these foods work perfectly with a cup of coffee or BC2 tea created by local vendor Mrs. Kelly. Our coffee comes from the micro-roaster Rio Lobo and from Palmira, a single-source family coffee farm.

BC2’s core product line remains our several varieties of natural sourdough bread, including rounds, garlic sourdough, baguettes, 12-grain levain, German rye, cherry almond bread, cinnamon raisin, apple-chipotle, and the three cheese-chorizo bread that is its own meal. Look for new products too, the result of experiments in combining favorite flavors to make food that’s delicious and unique!

Betty, the sourdough starter, has moved to a warmer location and that perked her up. Robert makes sourdough rounds out of his home kitchen that rise wonderfully and have the complex flavor customers love. He is looking forward to getting back into his own commercial kitchen and the opportunity to bring to retail and wholesale customers the most innovative, tasty, all-natural artisan products around. All that BC2 creates and produces is rooted firmly in our commitment to sustain and nourish people and communities with food, art, good conversation, and healthy living.

Please write in our guestbook and check this web site for another update in late January. We hope that in 2012 it will be our privilege to serve you once again.
